FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have answered some frequently asked questions below, however if your query hasn't been answered, please do not hesitate to contact me.

WHAT CAN PHYSIOTHERAPY HELP WITH?

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy focuses on the treatment of muscle, bone and joint problems. This may include conditions such as osteoarthritis, muscle strains, work related injuries or sports injuries.

Women's Health Physiotherapy helps women to manage a variety of pelvic conditions that present throughout their life. Some common symptoms that I help manage are bladder leaking, prolapse symptoms or pelvic pain. These are sometimes related to having a baby or the menopause.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

At your initial appointment, we will have a discussion regarding why you have booked to see me and this will include a conversation about your presenting problem alongside some questions regarding your general health and lifestyle.

I will then undertake a thorough assessment which may include looking at your posture, range of movement, muscle strength and any other tests that are indicated.

If you have booked for a Women's Health assessment, your appointment may also include a vaginal examination but please be reassured this isn't compulsory and we will discuss whether this may be indicated at your appointment.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?

Please attend your appointment in comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. Some people like to come to their appointments in exercise clothing but this isn't essential.

It is helpful to see the area we are assessing, so some people feel more comfortable bringing shorts or a vest top to allow for this. If we are assessing your spine we may ask you to remove your top to see the area that is bothering you.

HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS WILL I NEED?

Typically, people will attend between 3-6 sessions and the frequency of these will often vary depending on your presentation.

There are a number of influencing factors such as how long you have had your problem for, the severity of your symptoms and what treatment approaches are suitable.

Some people prefer to attend for advice and guidance, whereas others may benefit from more hands-on treatments that may require more appointments.

ARE ALL OF YOUR STAFF QUALIFIED PHYSIOTHERAPISTS?

Yes, I am a fully qualified Physiotherapist, registered with The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP). I am also an associate member of the Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapists (POGP).

CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME?

Yes, you are welcome to bring someone to your appointment if you wish to.

If you are attending a Women's Health appointment and wish to have a chaperone present for a vaginal examination, I kindly ask that you let me know in advance and provide your own chaperone.

I'VE JUST GIVEN BIRTH, WHEN CAN I BOOK IN FOR A MUMMY MOT®?

Firstly, congratulations on your new arrival!

I recommend booking to see me approximately six weeks after your delivery. This allows your body to have some natural recovery time and if you have had any stitches, six weeks should allow enough time for them to heal.

If you would like to be seen before the six week point, please get in touch and we can discuss this further.
